Welcome to the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education

The Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education is an academic unit of the University of Georgia committed to advancing higher education policy, management, and leadership through research, graduate education, and outreach. The McBee Institute's mission encompasses higher education issues at the campus, state, national, and international levels.

We are noted for our multidisciplinary approach to graduate education and research, with areas of specialization in federal and state policy, governance and administration, institutional and system finance, faculty careers and development, institutional research and assessment, and knowledge development and exchange.

Our Mission
The McBee Institute advances effectiveness, equity, diversity, efficiency, and innovation in colleges and universities by preparing graduate students, undertaking research, supporting outreach programs, and engaging with state, national, and global leaders in areas relating to postsecondary education.

Julianne O’Connell, a current McBee Institute Ph.D. candidate, was recently featured as a part of the University of Georgia’s Beyond the Arch, a collection of stories that highlights UGA’s top students and alumni who have taken their success far beyond the arch.
Dr. Jennifer M. Blaney, a newly appointed Associate Professor of Higher Education, will serve as principal investigator on two new NSF Awards – the CAREER Award valued at more than $625,000 and the EDU Core Research (ECR) Award, valued at almost $1.5 million.
The Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia invites applications for an early or mid-career professor position (tenure-track at assistant or associate rank) to begin August 1, 2025.
