Jennifer M. Blaney

Associate Professor of Higher Education

Jennifer M. Blaney, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia. She completed her Ph.D. in higher education from UCLA and previously served on the faculty at Northern Arizona University and Idaho State University. Dr. Blaney's research primarily focuses on how community college transfer can function as a mechanism for advancing gender equity in computing and other STEM fields.

Dr. Blaney has authored more than 30 peer reviewed publications, including journal articles appearing in the Review of Higher Education, Research in Higher Education, the Journal of Higher Education, the Community College Review, and other leading journals. She is also an active member of the Association for the Study of Higher Education and the Council for the Study of Community Colleges, where she frequently presents her work.

Dr. Blaney’s recent studies of transfer pathways in computer science have been supported by multiple grants from the Spencer Foundation and the National Science Foundation, and she has served as the lead or sole PI for numerous externally funded projects, totaling over $3 million. Her scholarship has also been recognized through multiple awards, including the 2024 Townsend Emerging Scholar Award from the Council for the Study of Community Colleges, the 2023 NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship, and a 2024 NSF CAREER Award.
