Melissa Whatley (PhD 2019) and Amy Stich collaborated on a recent article published in Journal of Mixed Methods Research, "Pushing the Integration Envelope: A Network Analysis of Study Abroad Website Content."

Using previous research on study abroad programs, Whatley & Stich employed network analysis "as a strategy for integrating data through analysis and as a way of validating earlier findings." They identify specific policies and practices that tend to encourage or discourage students to participate in study abroad and also re-examine the robustness of those relationships.

In addition to useful information for expanding participation and access to student abroad opportunities, their current findings underscore the potential for network analysis in mixed methods research. They write, "[Our approach resulted] in perspectives of our data that were not evident when we used more traditional qualitative and quantitative approaches separately."
