Julianne O’Connell

Doctoral Student
Julianne O’Connell is a doctoral candidate in the McBee Institute of Higher Education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and German from the University of Georgia. Prior to joining MIHE, Julianne taught English abroad for several years, including one as a Fulbright ETA in Indonesia. Her previous graduate assistantship roles were as a graduate resident with University Housing, where she was named Graduate Resident of the Year in Spring 2019, and as a research assistant for Dr. Libby Morris.
 
Julianne currently serves as the managing editor for the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement. Her leadership experience within MIHE includes the Higher Education Student Society and the Public Service and Outreach Committee and she is the recipient of the 2022 Douglas Toma Excellence in Scholarship and Service Award.
 
Julianne served as a Service Ambassador for ServeUGA and is an active volunteer at the UGArden and with Campus Kitchen at UGA. Her research interests pertain to student support services and basic needs security, and her dissertation focuses on how institutions address food insecurity on campus.
