Doctoral Student Julianne O’Connell is a full-time doctoral student in the McBee Institute of Higher Education. Julianne holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and German from the University of Georgia. Prior to joining IHE, Julianne taught English in Austria and Indonesia. Her previous assistantship roles were as a graduate resident with University Housing and as a research assistant for Dr. Libby Morris. Julianne currently serves as the managing editor for the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement. Her leadership experience within IHE includes the Higher Education Student Society and the Public Service and Outreach Committee. Julianne’s research interests pertain to student support services and basic needs security, and her dissertation will focus on how institutions address food insecurity on campus. Julianne O'Connell is a doctoral student in the Institute of Higher Education. She serves as a graduate resident advisor in the Department of University Housing supervising student staff and was recently named Graduate Resident of the Year in Spring 2019. Julianne joins the Institute after five years working in ESOL and agricultural education domestically and abroad. Her time includes two years spent working with inbound and outgoing ERASMUS students at an agrarian college in Vienna, Austria and a year spent teaching high school students in Kupang, Indonesia as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. O'Connell earned her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Linguistics and German Studies at the University of Georgia in 2013. While at UGA she worked as a resident assistant for three years in the Department of University Housing and was awarded the National Residence Hall Honorary Award for Resident Assistant of the Year and the Commitment to Sustainability Award in 2013.
