EdD, 2011 Jim Morrison serves as the Chief Strategy Officer at the University of Oklahoma. He previously led as associate provost for strategic initiatives at the University of Notre Dame. In this capacity, he worked closely with the provost, associate provosts, deans, faculty, and Department of Development staff to help direct major multidisciplinary academic initiatives that require input, expertise, and leadership from multiple Notre Dame colleges, schools, and/or other academic units. Morrison’s portfolio currently includes projects in real estate, scientific wellness, ethics, and military/veteran affairs as well as the Inspired Leadership Initiative. He is also charged with developing and managing large planning committees of senior staff and faculty, external academic partnerships, and other strategic endeavors for the University. Prior to his appointment as assistant provost, Morrison served as senior director of academic advancement at Notre Dame. Heading up the Department of Development’s college-based academic advancement team, he collaborated with University leadership to further critical academic priorities and multidisciplinary opportunities. Morrison has been at Notre Dame since 2013, when he joined the Office of the Provost as senior advisor to Provost Tom Burish. In addition, he has been executive assistant to the chancellor at the University of Tennessee, director of strategic planning at the University of Mississippi, and a higher education management consultant with Huron Consulting Group. A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Morrison holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from the Teachers College at Columbia University and a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Georgia. His dissertation explored how universities utilize fund balances to facilitate strategic behavior and absorb environmental variation.
