Since its founding in 1964, the McBee IHE has been a leader in faculty development. Our inaugural program, Faculty Development in Georgia, gave faculty members from institutions across the state an opportunity to continue their graduate education and earn a doctoral degree in any field of graduate study offered by the University of Georgia. Building on this initiative, the Governor's Teaching Fellows program invites faculty from public or private postsecondary institutions in Georgia to the Institute for seminars and/or a one-year residency to pursue innovative teaching methods using emerging instructional technologies. The Georgia College Advising Corps is a college-access program which aims to increase the number of low-income, underrepresented and first-generation college students who enter and complete post-secondary education. By placing recent college graduates--many of whom are themselves first-generation college students--as college advisers in underserved high schools, the program works in communities across the state to provide the advising and encouragement that many students need to navigate the college admissions process and to secure financial aid. The McBee IHE's efforts in institutional development now extend beyond the university and the state; a number of international initiatives build on IHE's strong traditions of regional outreach and public service. And the McBee IHE continues to serve the higher education community through an array of seminars, conferences, lectures, and other programs.
