EdD, 2005 Randall Peters retired as president of Southern Crescent Technical College in 2016 after serving since 2010. Peters was president of Heart of Georgia Technical College prior to his post at SCTC. He was also the vice president for economic development at what was then Augusta Technical Institute (now Augusta Technical College), with the responsibility for continuing education, customized business and industry training, and oversight of the Augusta Center for Advanced Technology. He has been called upon to serve as the interim president at both Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins and Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro. He is a member of Pi Lambda Theta, the international education honor society, and Phi Kappa Phi, the education honor society at the University of Georgia. Peters served in the U.S. Army for nearly 23 years until he retired in 1995 after advancing to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was stationed at several stateside locations as well as nine years in various assignments throughout Germany. He was also an assistant professor of Military Science at University of California -Davis, with simultaneous appointments at Cal State Chico and Cal State Sacramento. “While I already had plenty of leadership experience with over 22 years of active-duty service as an officer in the United States Army under my belt, I realized that I still needed the baseline knowledge that could only come from completing my doctorate at the University of Georgia. I made the right choice – I soon found myself asking a different kind of question of my senior staff – more on the order of “why do we do things this way” as opposed to “how do we do this”. Peters received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Carson-Newman College, in Jefferson City, Tenn., and a Master of Arts in human resources management from Pepperdine University, in Malibu Beach, Calif.
