PhD, 2022 Charles Sanchez is a Research Analyst at the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) where he conducts research on issues of college access and success, affordability, and postsecondary educational value. Prior to his graduation in Summer 2022, Charles completed his dissertation which investigated ways college outreach programs improve college access for students. His dissertation work was generously supported through and AERA-NSF dissertation fellowship. Charles Sanchez earned his Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and his Master of Education in higher education administration (student affairs) from the University at Buffalo. Having participated in the Educational Opportunity Program as well as serving in student government as an undergraduate student is what sparked his initial interest in issues of higher education. During his master’s degree study, he worked as an assistant hall director within the Campus Living Department at UB. Additionally, he held internships working within opportunity programs at nearby colleges and Buffalo Public High Schools, mentoring students through tumultuous academic times as well as helping guide students through college applications and the financial aid process. His interests are in college access, public policy, and retention of underrepresented students. He currently serves as a graduate assistant to the Georgia College Advising Corps and was the 2018-19 recipient of the inaugural Libby V. Morris Leadership award.
