Image: On April 30th, IHE professor Dr. Jim Hearn led a roundtable discussion to explore how private four-year colleges have maintained access and enrollments while facing financial and pandemic challenges. The two dozen participants in the forum were all graduates, faculty, and students from the IHE community. Dr. Hearn opened the session with an overview of historic trends in the strategic adaptations in response to other periods of financial hardship, like boosting collegiate sports to intentionally shifting market demographics. He also presented his current research projects that studied the effects of the pandemic on college funding. An in-depth discussion followed the presentation. Drawing from personal experiences and research projects, the participants shared perspectives on and local approaches to a variety of topics, including recruitment and enrollment, finances, and program development.
