Chronicle Cites Cain in Compensation Article

Timothy R. Cain is quoted in the Chronicle article, “What That Ad for the Unpaid Job at UCLA May Have Been About” (March 21, 2022).

In assessing the response to a job posting for an unpaid assistant adjunct professor, Cain refocused the conversation around a larger question of “the way we are structuring academic labor and what we are valuing and what we’re not valuing.”

He explained, “Teaching in exchange for a line on a CV or an affiliation with an academic institution says something quite significant about how academic labor is compensated and how it’s thought of.”
