Two Students to Share Miller Graduate Fellowship for 2014-15

The Institute of Higher Education has named two students, Lucia Brajkovic and Kelly Ochs Rosinger, as Zell and Shirley Miller Graduate Fellows for 2014-15.

The annual award is given to students with outstanding scholarly potential, academic record and professional achievements. The $1,500 award supports professional development.

“The high caliber of our current students made it difficult to select just one recipient this year. Lucia and Kelly both exemplify the traits of a great Miller Fellow and we’re pleased to honor their hard work and dedication to the study of higher education,” said Libby Morris, director of the Institute of Higher Education.

Rosinger is a doctoral candidate interested in higher education policy, finance and economics. Her dissertation research, funded by a fellowship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, uses a randomized control trial to examine how federal policy efforts to simplify information about college costs and financial aid affect enrollment and borrowing decisions. She also collaborates on quantitative and qualitative projects that consider the equity and efficiency outcomes of higher education policy at the federal, state and institutional level. Rosinger earned a master’s degree in public administration and policy from UGA and a bachelor’s degree in journalism/public relations from UNC-Chapel Hill. Prior to joining the Institute, she was an assistant director of admissions at UGA.

Brajkovic is a Fulbright student from Croatia. Her dissertation research focuses on higher education systems in post-transition countries of Central and Eastern Europe. She is also interested in exploring the connections of elite U.S. universities with the industry and corporate world, particularly with transnational corporations. This past summer, Brajkovic was a research associate at the American Council on Education (ACE), where she collaborated on research projects within their Center for Policy Research and Strategy and Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement. She holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and sociology from the University of Zagreb and a diploma in public relations management. She currently works as a graduate research assistant at UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

The Zell and Shirley Miller Graduate Fellowship was established to support doctoral study of significant issues in the field of higher education. Prior Miller fellows include Jennifer Rippner, Angie Bell, Stephanie Hazel, Austin Lacy, Yarbrah Peeples, Barrett Taylor and Denisa Gandara.
