Emily Chen-Bendle is a full-time doctoral student at the Institute of Higher Education. She holds a BA in English from Columbia University (Spring 1998), and an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia (Spring 2004). She will complete her EdD through Western University (Ontario, Canada) in Fall 2020, with a focus on leadership-based solutions to improve online student engagement in a university context.
Emily’s background includes industry experience as a marketer in both non-profit and for-profit organizations, including Target Corporation and America Online, and teaching experience as a marketing instructor in both community college and university settings. Additionally, Emily has published a number of business case studies on marketing and digital marketing through Ivey Publishing. As a marketing instructor, she taught both face-to-face and online courses, the latter of which fueled an interest in researching online higher education.
