PhD, 2009 Mark Kavanaugh is the associate vice chancellor and senior executive advisor to the provost. In this position, he provides strategic guidance to the provost and members of the provost’s cabinet, coordinates and leads strategic planning for the Office of the Provost, conducts issues research, develops communication, and serves as a proxy for the provost as appropriate. Before taking his current position in 2016, Kavanaugh served as committee director and policy analyst for the Higher Education Committee in the Texas Senate. He was responsible for ensuring bills made it through committee, had adequate support in the House of Representatives, and had the backing of the state’s political leadership. Kavanaugh earned a PhD in higher education from the University of Georgia and a JD and a BA from Louisiana State University.
