Laurie Williford returned to the U.S. Department of State as a foreign service officer (FSO) in 2018, serving in Brazil. She started her work in the diplomatic corps in 2006 and served in a variety of areas: Office of Japanese Affairs, the U.S. Embassy in Slovenia, the U.S. Embassy in Brazil, and the Office of Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Island Affairs.

She taught English and international understanding in Japan for three years. In addition to Japan, Slovenia, Brazil, and Australia, she has traveled to Korea, Ireland, England, Canada, and Papua New Guinea.

Laurie served as the assistant director of UGA’s Portuguese Flagship Program 2012-2018.

Education:

In addition to her M.Ed., Laurie earned her B.A. in Japanese and Spanish from UGA in 2001 and a Master’s degree in East Asian studies from Duke in 2007
