Image: The Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education congratulates William Redding, current PhD student, on his recent selection as a Doctoral Scholar by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). The SREB’s Doctoral Scholar Program aims to increase the number of students who earn doctorates and choose to become faculty at colleges and universities. Since its inception in 1993, the program has supported more than 2,200 scholars who have attended 113 institutions in more than 30 states. As a SREB Doctoral Scholar, Redding will receive multiple layers of support — including financial assistance, research funding, career counseling, job postings, and access to a scholar directory for networking and recruiting. Each fall, a thousand scholars and early-career faculty convene at the Institute on Teaching and Mentoring to learn, connect, and support one another. “I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of the program and meet the other amazing scholars and alumni,” said Redding. “As a part of this program, I will be able to better support my research on the experiences of Black rural students, connect with seasoned faculty, and connect with peers looking to conduct high-level research.” Congratulations, William, on this exciting opportunity and well-deserved recognition!
