Doctoral Student Hunter Jones is a full-time doctoral student in the McBee Institute of Higher Education. As a Presidential Graduate Fellowship recipient, she is a graduate assistant of Dr. Amy Stich. Hunter earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Human Development and Journalism & Media Production from Washington State University before she earned a Master of Arts in Educational Studies with a specialization in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University. Before joining IHE, Hunter served as an AmeriCorps member working with volunteer tutors at Reading Partners Twin Cities. As a master’s student, she was a Graduate Advisor for the Pay It Forward cohort within the Office of Student Life at The Ohio State University where she advised the cohort on cultivating community service opportunities for their fellow students. Hunter also served as a Graduate Research Associate for Drs. Stephen John Quaye and Kristen J. Mills for whom she assisted with research pertaining to financial and academic stress and wellness among undergraduate students. She also assisted Drs. Mills and Quaye on their research regarding racial battle fatigue among Black collegians. Her experience assisting with this research led to her interest in studying barriers faced by students with minoritized and underrepresented identities while pursuing their post-secondary education.
