Image: Dr. Ronald Johnson (EdD, 2023) has been named the Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). As Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff, Johnson will join the university’s executive leadership team and advise the president on administrative processes, special projects, and strategic initiatives that benefit the campus community. Johnson assumed these duties on June 1, 2024. Before starting his new role, Johnson served the Georgia Tech community as a Professor of Practice at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. As Johnson put it, he is “teaching by morning and transitioning by afternoon.” Johnson has also previously served as the Senior Vice President of Referee Operations at the National Basketball Association. Additionally, Johnson served in the U.S. Army for 32 years, receiving the rank of Major General and maintaining the honor of serving as the second-highest ranking engineer staff officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Johnson’s military honors include the Distinguished Service Medal and the Bronze Star for Legion of Merit. Dr. Johnson graduated from the Institute’s 7th cohort of the executive doctoral program in higher education management.
