by Jewel Caruso

Juanita Hicks (EdD, 2018) is the new senior associate vice president and chief human resources officer for the University of Georgia. She started her new position on July 1, 2023.

In the news release, Ryan Nesbit, vice president for finance and administration, said, "Much has been done and much is in progress to help advance support to the university community, and I am confident that Juanita will provide the vision, leadership, and support to continue building on this very positive momentum and energy."

Hicks has been serving as the vice chancellor for human resources at the University System of Georgia (USG) since 2019. Hicks sought to maximize employee and organizational effectiveness with strategic HR efforts that support the Board of Regents' objectives to be more efficient, affordable, and promote degree attainment in Georgia. In this role, she has also worked closely with chief human resources officers (CHRO) at the 26 USG institutions.

Prior to her time at USG, Hicks served as the deputy director of human resources and special projects at Georgia Tech and as associate vice president of human resources at the University of West Georgia.

Along with her EdD from the McBee Institute, Hicks holds a master's of human resource development from Clemson, a bachelors of business administration from the University of West Georgia, and is a certified professional of human resources.

Congratulations to Hicks and welcome back to UGA!
