Image: by Jewel Caruso Danielle Buehrer (EdD, 2021) was selected to participate in the Fulbright Specialist Program where she served for two weeks during the summer 2023 in Côte d'Ivoire. Buehrer is currently the vice provost for institutional effectiveness at Mercer University and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). During her time in Côte d'Ivoire, she assisted senior administrators at the International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB) in their application strategies and process for US accreditation. The Fulbright Program of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs places US academic and professionals in short-term project-based assignments at overseas colleges and universities. The partnerships lead to knowledge exchange and strengthen institutional linkages. Before leaving, Buehrer expressed her excitement at being a part of this prestigious program: “This opportunity will allow me to enhance and enrich the culture of quality assurance at both IUGB and Mercer University as well as my career as a higher education accreditation professional.” The title of her project was “Achieving US Regional Accreditation in Francophone Africa.” Buehrer’s main objectives were to review accreditation findings from a mock site visit and use that data to provide expertise to IUGB regarding their institutional changes. “Buehrer is a recognized expert on accreditation processes, and Mercer is proud for her to serve as a Fulbright specialist," the provost of Mercer University, D. Scott Davis, said. “She will serve in an important ambassadorial role, fostering international cooperation and helping her host institution develop effective accreditation procedures.” Congratulations to Buehrer on this exciting opportunity.
