Image: by Jewel Caruso John Fuchko III (PhD 2019) was appointed the interim president for Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Fuchko outlined his approach to this new role in his open letter on the CSU president's webpage. He stated his commitment to the institution's tagline is to be Creative to the Core. "As each of us strives to fulfill Columbus State University's mission, let's be guided by a shared commitment to creativity and innovation," wrote Fuchko. He continued, "Working together, CSU will continue to attract the brightest minds, expand its leadership position in academics and research, and develop new ways to serve students and the community. It starts with each of us seeing new possibilities and embracing work that's Creative to the Core." Fuchko, who is the University System of Georgia's vice chancellor for organizational effectiveness, will serve as interim president until a new president is hired. This news broke in February 2022 when the former President Chris Markwood announced his plans to retire. Fuchko immediately began meetings with key stakeholders across Columbus State to prepare for his start on July 1. His service to higher education has spanned over 15 years at the University System of Georgia. As vice chancellor, he oversees enterprise risk management, compliance and ethics, athletics oversight, strategic implementation, accreditation and various other administrative functions. His former role was USG's chief audit officer and vice chancellor for internal audit. Fuchko holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Kennesaw State University and his MBA from Georgia State University, He is currently pursuing a master's degree from the US Army War College.
