Image: by Jewel Caruso Alexa Lee Arndt, a fourth-year doctoral student at the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education, received the Sission Community Leadership Development Award from the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development. The award was presented by the Fanning Institute Director, Matt Bishop, this June. The Sisson award recognizes faculty, staff, and graduate students who have produced outstanding work in community leadership programming in underserved communities around Georgia. This award provides funding for Arndt to pursue professional development and continue her educational activities. The Dan Sisson Community Leadership Development Fund contributes the funds. The permanent wall display at the J.W. Fanning Building will showcase Arndt and the other recipients' names. Arndt holds two Bachelor of Art degrees from Ohio State University, Public Affairs and International Studies, and her M.S.Ed. from Indiana University. Her most recent professional experience was serving as the interim director of the Office of Leadership and Advocacy at the University of Mississippi. In this position, her work primarily focused on undergraduate student leadership programming, student organization conduct, student organization advising, and fraternity and sorority life advising. Arndt has accomplished many achievements while at the University of Georgia. She has served as the president of the Higher Education Student Society while also working at the Fanning Institute. Arndt also commits her research to gender equity issues in higher education. Her dissertation will apply a critical feminist theory to study exploitation in women staff working in higher education. Arndt is also a previous recipient of the Libby V. Morris Leadership Award. Type of News/Audience: General News
