The Institute dedicated a bench in memory of Ginger Szabo Durham, a graduate of the second cohort of the Executive Ed.D. program, on the afternoon of October 2. Chad Puls (Ed.D. 2012) initiated a special funding campaign among the members of Cohort 2 to install a plaque in Ginger’s memory at the foot of the bench outside the windows of classroom 101. The spot has special meaning since colleagues recalled talking with Ginger there between classes. David Snow (Ed.D. 2012), the director of military affairs for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, officiated the ceremony. Speakers included Charles Knapp, president emeritus of the University of Georgia and the director of the Executive Ed.D. program, classmate Yvette Upton, and Charles Horton, Ginger’s father. In attendance were members of Ginger’s family, IHE faculty members, cohort members, and colleagues at the University System of Georgia and the University of Georgia. Ginger’s mother, Rita Horton, and her two sons, Pete and Ethan Szabo, joined her father to cut the ribbon and be the first to sit on Ginger’s bench.
