IHE postdoctoral associate Sondra Barringer will join the faculty at Southern Methodist University on Aug. 1.

Sondra N. Barringer, who currently serves as a postdoctoral research and teaching associate at IHE, has accepted a position as assistant professor of education policy and leadership in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University. She will join the SMU faculty on Aug. 1.

Denisa Gandara, who received her doctoral degree from IHE, also is at SMU.

“We will be in the same department and teaching in the same programs,” said Barringer. “Since Denisa is more focused on policy and I focus more on higher ed governance our research interests and teaching are complementary. I am looking forward to exploring opportunities for collaboration with her and others at SMU.”

Before heading to SMU, Barringer is keeping busy with work on two NSF grants and submitting papers for publication and to the ASHE and AERA conferences.

“I’m very excited to be starting at SMU in the fall and working with my new colleagues; but I will be sad to leave IHE. ” said Barringer. “I have enjoyed working with such an interdisciplinary and engaging group of scholars.”

Barringer came to IHE in fall 2013 from the School of Sociology at the University of Arizona, where she received her Ph.D. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and economics at Baylor University and a master of arts in sociology at the University of Arizona.
