IHE Launches Search for Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Associate

The Institute of Higher Education invites applications for a post-doctoral research and teaching position. The position is designed to engage an emerging scholar in the Institute’s research and teaching mission. The candidate should have expertise aligning with the overall research interests of the faculty, while also bringing new areas of inquiry into the Institute’s research activities. The candidate should also have appropriate expertise to teach in the Institute’s graduate curriculum. A senior faculty member whose research and teaching closely aligns with the interests of the chosen candidate will mentor the postdoctoral associate.

IHE postdoctoral associates have a history of success in employment after their stay at the Institute. After finishing their Institute appointments, two recent post-doctoral associates assumed faculty positions in highly ranked higher-education programs in the U.S., another assumed a research position in a university-based research center overseas, and one assumed a high-level leadership position in a state higher-education governing agency.

The applicant should be a recent graduate of a doctoral program in higher education, educational policy, sociology, public policy, political science, economics, or a related field. The Institute is especially interested in candidates with expertise in social, political, and economic theory and in qualitative research. Ability to work collaboratively on research projects in the Institute and mentor advanced doctoral students is desirable. A record of research, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations at major scholarly meetings is required. This position will be for one year’s duration, but may be extended to an additional year based on mutual interest, administrative approval, and the availability of funds.

Deadline for applications is November 2, 2015. Position can begin as early as late fall 2015 or in Spring Semester of the current academic year (January 2016) or as late as the Fall Semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

To apply, please send a cover letter and cv to Libby V. Morris, Director, Institute of Higher Education, Meigs Hall, University of Georgia, Athens, GA  30602-6772.  Electronic applications should be sent to Dr. Morris in care of Ms. Susan Sheffield (sheffiel@uga.edu).

Founded in 1964, the Institute of Higher Education is noted for its multidisciplinary approach to the study of higher education. IHE offers the Ph.D., Ed.D., and M.Ed. degrees and collaborates in a Masters of Public Administration degree through UGA’s School of Public and International Affairs. The University of Georgia is an AA/EO employer.
