ELL Education in Higher Ed from Athens to Tashkent (and Back Again)

Dr. Michael Benson (Ed.D. '77) and Ms. Madina Djuraeva will lead a discussion of English language instruction in higher education, sharing their professional experiences in the field. Dr. Benson will highlight IHE’s influence on his work throughout Central Asia, and Ms. Djuraeva will offer perspectives from Uzbekistan.

Ms. Djuraeva is a Fulbright Scholar, teaching an introduction to Uzbek language class at the University of Georgia. She is a graduate of the Institute for English Language Teacher Education (IELTE) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a school directed by IHE alumnus Michael Benson.

Dr. Benson was instrumental in providing the vision, planning, and launching IELTE in 1999. He served as director for several years and remains active in higher education tailored for ELL.
