Doctoral Student

Jordan  Mitchell is a full-time Ph.D. student at the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education and a Managing Editor for the  Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement (JHEOE). She earned her B.S. in Communication and Leadership, with a minor in Educational Psychology, from the University of Texas at Austin in 2023, and her M.Ed. in Higher Education from Southern Methodist University in 2025.

Jordan’s passion for higher education was kindled during her undergraduate years at UT-Austin, where she served as an orientation advisor, a Student Activities ambassador, and a student mentor for Project MALES (Mentoring to Achieve Latino Educational Success). She also contributed to The Daily Texan  as a football beat writer and Associate Sports Editor and interned with the  Austin American-Statesman  as a sports reporter.

At SMU,  Jordan  deepened her focus on student support and intercollegiate athletics. She developed and led leadership curricula as the Graduate Assistant for Leadership Programs, supported student-athletes through her internship with SMU Academic-Development of Student-Athletes (ADSA), served as a teaching assistant in Student Academic Engagement and Success (SAES), and wrote features for SMU Athletics.

Her research interests center on student-athlete experiences in higher education, particularly transfer student-athlete major selection, academic clustering and tracking, and athletic academic advising strategies. She also explores student development theory, high-impact practices, and first-year student wellbeing.
