Joseph Hermanowicz

Joseph Hermanowicz is Professor of Sociology and Professor of Higher Education (by courtesy) at the University of Georgia. Dr. Hermanowicz has been at the University of Georgia since 1999. A specialist in the sociology of higher education, he combines concerns with professions and the life course to examine people's careers, how they are experienced over time, and how they are shaped by organizations. 

He is the author of The Stars Are Not Enough: Scientists--Their Passions and Professions (Chicago, 1998), Lives in Science: How Institutions Affect Academic Careers (Chicago, 2009), and editor of The American Academic Profession: Transformation in Contemporary Higher Education (Johns Hopkins, 2011).

He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago in 1996. His specialty areas include professions, occupations, and careers, life course studies, higher education, and the sociology of science.
