M.Ed. Program Description

Sonenberg presents MEd Capstone

The Master of Education in Higher Education Administration program prepares students for entry- and mid-level administrative and research positions in postsecondary education institutions, policy and research organizations, and governmental and nonprofit entities across the state, region, and country. Recent graduates are working in areas such as college admissions, university financial affairs, disability services, and recreation sports, as well as pursuing doctoral study in higher education.

The M.Ed. program introduces students to the field of higher education through coursework and experiences designed to examine critical issues in the field and develop skills aimed at solving them. In addition to the courses that all M.Ed. students take for broad preparation, the students specialize in a specific area directly related to their academic and professional interests. Students are also strongly encouraged to undertake an internship to further build and applying their knowledge. The M.Ed. program does not require a thesis, but students do complete a capstone project that helps them further develop and display their applied knowledge in higher education.

M.Ed. Student Handbook, 2021

Students who are applying for full-time study are strongly encouraged to pursue graduate assistantship opportunities to both fund and supplement their education. In recent years, Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education masters students have successfully earned positions in a variety of offices through the Student Affairs Graduate Assistantship Program. Please note, applying for student affairs assistantships is a separate process from applying for the M.Ed. program. For more information, including application procedures and deadlines, please visit the Student Affairs Graduate Assistants home page.
