Image: New director brings relevant skill set and commitment to higher education access and retention. Brook Thompson joins IHE as the director of the Georgia College Advising Corps (GCAC). She brings wide experience with college access programs, recruitment and retention among diverse populations, and school-c0llege-community networks. She served three years as a coordinator of GEARUP, a federally-funded program in North Carolina that prepares high school students to succeed in postsecondary education. Prior, Brook was Teacher Recruitment and Retention Liaison at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she partnered with K-12 schools and institutions of higher education to recruit and retain diverse teacher licensure candidates. Most recently, Brook coordinated an English language program in Oaxaca, Mexico. She has a BA from James Madison University in International Affairs and an MA in Teaching with a concentration in Secondary Education and Social Studies from Western Carolina University. Previous director Jessica Robinson began a new position in the College of Education at Texas State University, Department of Curriculum and Instruction this summer. Robinson started at GCAC in 2017 and become director in 2017.
