Former Associate Vice President for Instruction (UGA)

Dr. Naomi Norman joined the McBee Institute in August 2023 as the director of the Governor's Teaching Fellows program.

Norman retired from the University of Georgia in spring 2023, after serving for several years as an associate vice president for instruction. She is a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor in Classics and was the director of UGA’s Excavations in Roman Carthage.

As the AVPI, she oversaw many of UGA’s student success initiatives, such as the First-Year Odyssey Seminar program, academic advising, academic coaching, and the UGA Reacting to the Past program, and was part of the Active Learning QEP design and implementation team.

She was invited to membership in the University of Georgia's Teaching Academy in 2008 and was an active member of the Academy’s Executive Committee and Early Career Fellows Program.
