Melissa (Moose) Alperin

Melissa Alperin, more commonly known by her nickname Moose, is the director of the Executive Master of Public Health Program, which is the distance-based MPH program at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. In addition, she holds a senior associate faculty appointment in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Health Education at Rollins.

Since 1989, Alperin has been the co-primary investigator or project director/coordinator on numerous leadership training, workforce development, and public health practice initiatives including the Emory Public Health Training Center, Emory Center for Public Health Preparedness, Applied Public Health Informatics Curriculum Project, Evaluation of the Older Driver Safety Design Train-the-Trainer Workshop, and Assessment of Immunization Training Needs and Educational Products and Programs for Medical Assistants. For more than 20 years, she has taught Epi Info, a computer program used for data entry and analysis in public health programs, to public health professionals throughout the U.S., Caribbean, Mexico, Panama, and Thailand.

Alperin is active in professional organizations including the American Public Health Association/Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section, Georgia Public Health Association, Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), and Georgia SOPHE Chapter. She is also a member of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Council of Public Health Practice Coordinators and Council on Learning Futures.

Education:

Alperin received a Bachelor of Arts in Judaic studies from Brown University, a Master of Public Health in health promotion and education from Emory University, and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES). She received her Ed.D. through the executive doctorate in higher education management program at UGA’s Institute of Higher Education.
