EdD, 2017 Jamila Edwards is the Assistant Director of the Research Administrative Services unit of the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She previously served as a pre-award manager for the School of Public Health and the Nell Hodgson School of Nursing at Emory University, where she managed a team of pre-award research administraors. Prior to joining Emory, Edwards worked as the grants and contracts officer for the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, where she handled both pre-award grant submission and post-award financial management for several departments within the college. She also worked to keep other administrators trained and informed on compliance issues, managed effort reporting, and worked with faculty across the college to pursue new funding opportunities. In her tenure as grants and contracts officer she developed a research blog to keep faculty informed on changes across the university and with major funding sources, as well as to inform them of new funding opportunities. Before pursuing a career in Higher Education, Jamila worked as a paralegal for four years and as a magazine editor for three years prior to that. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at UGA in 2003 and then completed a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in public and non-profit finance at Georgia State University in 2011.
