Doctoral Student Ernest Adom is a full-time doctoral student at the McBee Institute of Higher Education. He holds a Bachelor of Education in Arts with an emphasis on Ghanaian Language and Religion & Human Values from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and a master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership and Administration from Canisius University in Buffalo, New York. Before joining UGA, Ernest worked as a high school teacher in Ghana, an experience that ignited his passion for promoting equity, inclusion, and systemic change to expand college access and ensure student success. At Canisius University, he served as a graduate assistant at the Career Development Center. He was also an academic mentor for the Academic Mentoring Program, contributing to increased student retention, and a teaching assistant for an undergraduate research methods course. This past summer, he worked with the summer programs at Berklee College of Music in Boston. His research interests lie at the intersections of identity, institutional policies, and initiatives in higher education that shape college access, persistence, and success for marginalized populations.
