Drew Pearl

Drew Pearl is the director of community engagement research and publications in the University of Alabama’s Center for Community-Based Partnerships (CCBP), effective February 1, 2019. He provides support to students and faculty in Bama’s new Student Community Engagement Center, as well as work across campus to offer support on academic publications, presentations, and research related to community-engaged scholarship.

He previously was the director of academic engagement and assistant professor at the University of North Georgia.

During his time at UGA, he worked as a graduate assistant in the UGA Office of Service-Learning. Prior to joining the Office of Service-Learning, Pearl worked as a graduate assistant in the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, where he contributed to the management of the publication of the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement.

His research is primarily focused on the scholarship of engagement and its institutionalization in colleges and universities, specifically related to faculty motivation. Pearl was selected as a Fellow in the 2013 National Data Institute, which is facilitated by the Association of Institutional Research and supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Center for Education Statistics. He has also been selected to attend the 2013 Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop, which is held in conjunction with the Engagement Scholarship Consortium. Pearl earned a Bachelor of Music in performance from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Arts in music performance from the University of New Mexico, and a Master of Arts in public administration from the University of Georgia.
