Rebecca Owens, retired from LSU in August, 2016 where she served as Instructor and Assistant to the Director. Owens taught higher education graduate courses at LSU and also served as the coordinator for the online Master’s of Education with an emphasis in higher education administration. Owens designed courses in the curriculum and taught Intro to Student Affairs, Administration and Organization, Assessment in HE, and the College Student. She was also responsible for program assessment for the online degree and taught Leadership in Higher Ed, Assessment, and Strategic Planning in the face to face format. Owens also worked with the Dean’s Office where she assisted with compliance review for program assessment and wrote the College’s strategic planning report.
She received her Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia in 1992 and spent 14 years at Texas Tech University where she was director of two departments whose mission was academic support services. While at Texas Tech she served on the steering committee to begin a Staff Senate, on numerous leadership committees both campus and state wide, and administered budgets in excess of two million dollars. She led efforts in student retention and student academic success while at Texas Tech. Dr. Owens brings a strong practitioner background to the higher education program where she teaches leadership and strategic planning. She also serves as the School of Education’s assessment coordinator.
