Rebecca Owens retired from LSU in August, 2016. In addition to serving as a special assistant to the director, Owens taught higher education graduate courses and served as the coordinator for the online Master’s of Education with an emphasis in higher education administration. During her tenure, she designed and taught online and classroom courses for Intro to Student Affairs, Administration and Organization, Assessment in HE, and the College Student, Leadership in Higher Ed, Assessment, and Strategic Planning.

She received her Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia in 1992 and spent 14 years at Texas Tech University where she was director of two departments whose mission was academic support services. While at Texas Tech she served on the steering committee to begin a Staff Senate, on numerous leadership committees both campus and state wide, and administered budgets in excess of two million dollars. She led efforts in student retention and student academic success while at Texas Tech.
