Georgia Strange

Bio

Georgia Strange, Director of the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia, earned degrees in biological sciences, science education, and fine arts from Indiana University.  She held teaching positions at Centre College of Kentucky, the Ohio State University, and Indiana University prior to her appointment at the University of Georgia.  Professor Strange received the James P. Holland Award for Exemplary Teaching and Service to Students and the Herman Frederic Lieber Memorial Award in Recognition of Distinguished Teaching at Indiana University.  Service in the Peace Corps in Liberia, West Africa, work on an archaeological excavation in Greece, and several years of study in Italy are important influences on her artwork.  She was awarded an Indiana Arts Commission Masters Fellowship and several competitive research grants at research universities where she has taught.  In addition to many venues across the country, Strange's sculptural work has been exhibited at SOHO20 Gallery in New York City since 1990.  Strange serves on the Board of the College Art Association.  Her artwork can be viewed at georgiastrange.net.
