Marilyn (De LaRoche) Tyus

Dr. Marilyn A. Tyus became the assistant vice president for University Housing and Dining at the University of Texas-Austin on July 30, 2018. As part of her new responsibilities, she joins the division’s leadership team and oversees the university’s 14 on-campus residence halls, university apartments, and 13 dining and retail venues. She also leads the division’s efforts to strengthen living and learning environments for undergraduate and graduate students.

Between 2015 and 2018, Marilyn served as senior director of housing and auxiliary services at the University of Michigan, where she led a department that included approximately 12,000 beds in 18 residence halls and 1,500 graduate and family apartments, with an operating budget of $140 million. She also oversaw the auxiliary units of capital projects and marketing.

Marilyn has over 28 years of experience in residential housing as well as several years of experience in protective social services. She served as Director of University Housing at Georgia State University (GSU), an institution with over 32,000 students enrolled and almost 5,000 housed on campus. Marilyn served on the GSU University Crisis Team, the Alcohol and Drug Intervention committee; the Safety and Security committee; the University Avian Flu committee and the Enrollment Management Group. Her professional affiliations include the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). 

Dr. Tyus received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics with emphasis in Business from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She received her Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling from Southeast Missouri State University and her Master of Science of Education in Student Personnel from Illinois State University. She is a member of the first cohort of the Executive Ed.D. in Higher Education Management who graduated in December, 2011.
